Facing the Sea of Japan, Niigata Prefecture is a treasure-house of beautiful scenery in every season and the delicious foodstuffs those natural features bear forth.
Each season holds its own delights in Niigata. In spring, the cherry trees of Takada Park are a joyous riot of color, one of Japan’s “three great” cherry-blossom scenes. Summer brings Niigata’s “three great” fireworks festivals (good things come in threes in Japan), as the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, the Kashiwazaki Fireworks Festival and the Katakai Fireworks Festival color the night sky. In the fall, fields and meadows glow with ears of Uonuma Koshihikari rice swaying in the breeze. And when winter arrives, a dazzling snowscape sets the stage for winter sports.
Niigata Prefecture is replete with regions where you can encounter the exquisite beauty of Japan’s unique artisanal skills. Tsubame, famed for their “Made in Tsubame” ironware and Sanjo have flourished for centuries as cities of craftspeople. Tokamachi has likewise prospered as a town of silk weavers.
Echigo-Tsumari, where the Hotel is located, is the home of Art Triennial, one of the world’s greatest international art festivals.
All year round, some 200 artworks can be enjoyed. Since 2000, the Art Triennial has been presented once every three years, during which a full slate of events and tours are produced for the delight of visitors.
No matter what season you visit in, Niigata Prefecture will captivate and amaze you. On your visit to Japan, don’t miss the chance to enjoy the kaleidoscope of wonders that is Niigata Prefecture.
At dinnertime, you can choose from three styles of restaurants to suit your fancy.
Cosmos is a buffet-style restaurant where you can choose from a palette of Japanese, Western and Chinese favorites.
Iris offers prix fixe menus inspired by deep respect for the foodstuffs and food producers of Niigata.
Buna is a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious and eye-catching Japanese cuisine, prepared from fresh ingredients in season by expert chefs.
For breakfast, enjoy a delicious buffet of Japanese, Western and Chinese favorites.
Atema Onsen is an alkaline (ph8.9) simple hot spring. Its viscous, dark-reddish-brown waters are soothing to the skin.
The spa includes indoor, outdoor and private baths (a fee applies, reservations required). Relax in a space that fuses beautiful scenery with healing comfort.
Sauna facilities are also adjacent. In the spa of the main building, you can bask in the fragrance of aromatic oils on hot stones.
