The history of Tokamachi cloth stretches back more than 1,200 years, to some hemp cloth (Echigo-nuno) stored at Shōsōin, the treasure house of Tōdaiji Temple in Nara. Nurtured through centuries of history and tradition, this luxurious, high-quality hemp cloth is a product of the surpassing technique and devoted labor of generations past. Later, hemp weaving gave way to silk, affirming Tokamachi’s place in Japanese life and culture as a production center for woven goods.

Atema Onsen, the hot spring you can enjoy at the Hotel, is a simple hot spring, meaning that its waters contain less than 1,000 ppm of dissolved minerals. It is dark reddish-brown in color and alkaline, with a pH of 8.9.
